Denise Kowal, who came in third in the race for Sarasota City Commission District 2 on March 13, is giving her support to former opponent Dick Clapp.
Denise Kowal met with Dick Clapp last week at his request to discuss the campaign and issues facing the city. According to Kowal, “Before I took a position, I wanted to be sure that Mr. Clapp’s interests and what I believe to be the interests of Sarasota’s downtown were the same. Having spoken with him, I believe Dick Clapp is committed to the principles and ideals of the Downtown Master Plan 2020.” Kowal respects Clapp for his honesty, involvement and recognition of the importance of full disclosure and transparency in decision-making. She feels he will be an asset to our commission and will make thoughtful and informed decisions with the entire community in mind. Kowal added, “Clapp also indicated he would be attending the Congress on New Urbanism Conference in order to build his knowledge base.”
Kowal, who will be attending a SmartCode workshop at the end of this month in Dallas, TX, will remain committed to supporting the City of Sarasota in Smart Growth and New Urbanist principles. She remains president of the Burns Square Property Owners Association and will continue to work for implementation of the Burns Square Public Improvements Master Plan, and to push for proper implementation of the Downtown Master Plan 2020 and the Downtown Parking Master Plan.
Kowal thanks everyone who gave her support and recommend that those who supported her strongly consider supporting Mr. Clapp as well, further advancing her campaign theme of “Principles, not Politics!”
The Servian campaign has not contacted Kowal as of this release.
